What is a Mold Remediator and Why Should You Use One?

NORMI Certified

NORMI Certified

Mold is a common problem that can affect any home or business. Much like common medical conditions, if not treated properly, it can result in serious long-term problems. There are many different types of mold and some are known to be highly toxic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), exposure to mold can cause asthma in some children and breathing problems in otherwise healthy adults. If you suspect you have mold, don’t take any chances with the health of your loved ones, employees, or customers. Consult a mold expert.

NYC mold remediator

The National Organization of Remediators and Mold Inspectors (NORMI) works to protect the public by certifying mold inspectors, remediators, and environmental professionals with high-quality training. Not all home inspectors are NORMI certified and not all contractors who offer mold remediation services are actually qualified to do so.

Thoroughly inspecting for the presence of mold and effectively eliminating it should only be done by mold experts who are knowledgeable about mold and have years of experience. Be sure any mold professional you hire is a NORMI certified mold inspector and NYC mold remediator.

Remediation vs. treatment

Traditional mold remediation methods are costly and can disrupt a business or household for weeks while walls are torn out and replaced. The MoldExterm treatment method eliminates the mold problem rather than just masking symptoms. It is quicker, safer, and more effective than traditional methods.

Stern Mold has been serving commercial and residential customers in Long Island, New Jersey, and New York City for more than 20 years. Contact us today for a free inspection and consultation on our guaranteed mold extermination treatment.

Why Is It So Important to Treat for Mold Spores?

When we think about mold problems, we often think of stinky mildew and unpleasant slime. However, it all starts with tiny mold spores that you cannot see, smell, or otherwise detect with your normal senses.

Spores are extremely hard to kill off because they can go dormant and reactivate days, months, or years later. In fact, the EPA has found that there’s no proven way to get rid of spores completely. So, what you need is NYC mold removal that also protects against spores from reactivating.

NYC Mold Removal and Sealing

If you want a mold treatment that keeps the problem away permanently, you need a solution that stops the mold spores from reactivating. Stern Mold guarantees to keep mold away for good, thanks to a special polymer seal that is 100% safe and effective.

Here’s how our NYC mold removal and mold spore treatment works:

• To grow mold, spores require water, oxygen, and a food source like wood or plant matter.

• Lacking those requirements, spores lie dormant and wait for their preferred conditions to be met.

• We use the two-step MoldExterm system that starts with an EPA-registered fungicide and finishes with a proprietary polymer sealant.

• The surface barrier prevents any remaining mold spores from reappearing, backed up by our warranty.

Any surface that hasn’t been treated with MoldExterm should be kept as dry as possible. Along with our NYC mold removal, we can install special dehumidifiers to help control spores throughout the building.

Stern Mold knows how to keep mold problems at bay permanently, by controlling the spores at the root of the problem. Contact us today for a free inspection!

Tips for Suing Your Landlord for a Mold Infestation

Mold Spores Stay in the Air Causing Health Problems

Mold Spores Stay in the Air Causing Health Problems

Researchers have linked mold to a number of physical and cognitive health problems. If you or a family member sustains a serious impairment related to mold exposure in a leased house or apartment, how do you go about getting the compensation you deserve?

Suing a Landlord for Mold-Related Problems

If you suffer mold-related damages, the first step is to get evidence of the presence of mold and its level of toxicity. This information will be submitted by your lawyer during the discovery phase of the lawsuit, when each side gets to see and review facts that will be presented by the opponent.

Lawyers have different specialties and areas of expertise, so you should obtain the services of one who is familiar with mold cases. Nolo, a website offering legal information to consumers, has a directory of lawyers that can be searched by experience, fees, and geographic area.

You will definitely need representation if your damages are substantial, but if they run less than $10,000 you can handle the case yourself in small claims court. Confirm the limits in your state before proceeding. You may also be required to first send a demand letter to your landlord as a condition of filing.

Will Insurance Cover Mold-Related Expenses?

Depending on your policy, renters’ insurance may cover damages to possessions with either replacement or repair costs. If your health insurance doesn’t cover your medical bills, you’ll need to file suit against your landlord to recover.

Firefighters Are Now Fighting Black Mold in Their Own Fire Stations

Mold Isn’t Just In Old Buildings, Find Out if You’re Safe Before It’s Too Late.

Firefighters handle dangerous threats in the line of duty every day, but members of three stations in Oklahoma are facing one closer to home as black mold takes a toll on their health.

Black Mold: A Small but Mighty Foe

According to Northwest Rogers County Firefighter James Pippin, their three buildings date back to 1986 and poor maintenance has resulted in a major infestation of black mold. The fungus has been found throughout the stations on ceilings, baseboards and other surfaces.

Pippin explained that many of the firefighters began experiencing headaches, watery eyes, sinus congestion and other upper respiratory symptoms. They felt fine upon reporting to work, but started feeling ill as the days wore on.

After the firefighters compared notes, they had a professional come out to their stations and conduct mold inspections. While the control test performed outdoors showed 130 parts per cubic foot, the measurement indoors was a staggering 9,400 parts per cubic foot.

What’s the Solution?

As Pippin noted, that amount is just below the level when professionals recommend immediate evacuation. Armed with the test results, the fire chief called a board meeting to address the situation.

The decision was made to relocate all three stations as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Pippin says, the budget is tight and viable options are hard to find.
